Double Page Spread
Analysis of a double page spread;
Analysis of a double page spread;
Here is a video montage of what people usually look at on a double age spread. Often the images are the main attraction.
Representation of Country music
Images
Country music is represented in Images as very real, relaxed images. The style is posed and often in head shot/mid shot focus. The subject is often smiling or has a happy expression on their face. The colours will be subtle colour pallet; ie. neutral skin tones; browns and whites. They match the real life lyrics of country music. Because country music is all about the message that the music gives, country artists rarely put on an act for there photo's. An exception to this is Taylor swift who sticks to her country roots but has set up images.The photography is edited subtly with no obvious changes. Some times a guitar or other iconic symbols will be added to the photo. Shots with a guitar are popular. The relaxed nature of these photo's are easily recognisable as country artists. The effects of this are promoting a country artist becomes easier.
Some country photographs used in double page spreads are of the artist actually performing. This shows that the article is about a musician. If their not performing, then they are probably song writing. Images used in double page spreads are primarily action shots for the small photo's, and a relaxed posed shot for the main one. The effects of having the relaxed style headline image is how that audience sees the page. It makes it more relaxed and inviting making it more like a conversation than an article. This therefore makes it more interactive with the audience. It also links to the lyrics. The lyrics are about real life situations therefore the page needs to reflect that. As country music is american and it's biggest audience is in southern america. The language used in my double page spread needs to reflect this. My Artist is american there for the language will have american/ southern american sociolect in it. i.e. awesome, y'all etc.
For they layout, I will use a full size image as the main attraction to the page. This is a couple of idea's for my layout;
1. This layout is very stereotypical because all the text is together and the images are all together. I don't like the massive space above the head line.
2. I like this layout because it's spaced out and simple. Because it's all space out it breaks up the text. I don't like the large text box next to the main image though.
3. This is my favourite of the for because the text is on one page and the the other is a single main image. I think this will attract the audience because the text is split up and the layout is quirky and interesting.
4. This layout is strong because it's spaced out and not to easy to read. unlike the other layouts, the main picture is in the wrong placed for a reader who flicks through the pages because the other side is the side that would be seen.
For some inspiration for my Interview, I did a survey of what people would ask there favourite artist if they met them and videoed the answers, Here is a video montage of people's answers. I will use this research as inspiration for what I'm going to ask my artist in my double page spread. I thought this would be useful because I want my double page spread to be an interview with questions that people actually want to find out. some of the questions are more creative than others.
Another Piece of research I have done is look at interviews on TV and radio for some inspiration. Here is a video of Taylor Swift on the Jonathan Ross show. I love they questions about her songs. It makes the songs more personal. They seem to be fairly popular questions that people want to ask. I learnt from watching these video's how to make the questions flow so it's not just Q&A.
Colour schemes
For my colour scheme, I will use the natural style of country music but add my own twist. I like the idea of using a sophisticated look i.e black and white with added colour in the writing or title. An idea for my colour scheme is going on the earth theme. It will be like the colour line above only with some deeper browns. Traditions of country music revolve around earth materials to make cowboyboots and guitars. Using the earth theme incorparates those traditions. It's also sophisticated and targets both sex's.
Another idea for my colour pallet for my page is the american colour theme. The american background and traditions show through this colour scheme. Country artists are very loyal to there country. This can be reflected in the colour scheme. I think I'm more like likely to use the traditional colour scheme.

Here is a transcript of my interview from my article.
B: Hey Cassidy! This has been a crazy year for you. Have you had time to appreciate it or is it too much to take in?
Cassidy Jones: It's been crazy with the tour and the album. I guess I haven't really had time to think about it.
B: How's the tour going?
Cassidy: It's going Awesome! I'm about half way done got ten more places yet to go. I've been to loads of places and now I'm going to Europe. It's crazy! I love meeting all my fans especially when I'm trying to speak a different language to them. It's amazing how inspiring they are.
B: Where's the best place you've performed?
Cassidy: oooh! That's a hard one! I love performing everywhere but I guess the best crowds are either New York or London. I was so stoked at how nice everyone is there!
B: (hahaha) That's nice of you, our readers will like hearing that! So let's talk your new album, 'Here and now'. When's it out?
Cassidy: It's out on the 28th of January but my single is out now!
B: yes that's right! 'fallen fairytale'. Currently 1# in 17 countries. Congrats!
Cassidy: Thanks! It's kind of exciting really! 'duno' the other day I was driving in my car and turned on the radio and it was playing my song. It's still one of the best feelings in the world.
B: Why do you think it's done so well??
Cassidy: I don't know? I never expected to get so far. I guess because it's about my experience and because it's relatable. It's kind of exciting though!
B: How did you write it? what was your inspiration?
Cassidy: Hahaha well I wrote it as a feel better song for a friend after she went through a rough break up when I was like 16. It was only suppose to be a fun joke type thing so I put it away in a drawer with a load of other songs I wrote when I was younger. So when I was clearing away my stuff so I could move house, I looked in the drawer and found it and it fit perfectly with my new album!. It was all a complete coincidence.
B: Do you write all your songs from real life experiences?
Cassidy: Yeah! I think people can relate to songs more if they're about real life. Plus I have so much drama that happens, why not write about it? (hahaha)
B: What kind of drama?
Cassidy: you know break up's, friends, people, the usual stuff.
Cassidy: you know break up's, friends, people, the usual stuff.
B: Do you ever worry about getting nasty responses from the people you write about?
Cassidy: Not particularly! Only because I don't obviously write songs about people unless there good songs. Most of the time I use my experiences as an inspiration instead of actually writing the lyrics about them. If someone does act the I guess I'll just have to take it.
B: How do you deal with negative press stories and pictures?
Cassidy: I try not to read them, I don't really go on the internet unless it's twitter! I used to get really self-conscious about all the bad stories. Especially if they're about my weight! I've always had a problem with m weight and it got to a point where I would read one bad story or see a awful picture and crash diet for days. I would literally not eat anything. Now I've learnt not to care so much or read the papers. It's made my life easier and happier that way.
B: Is it true you had an eating disorder?
Cassidy: Unfortunately it is. It was a rough part of my life when my parents were going through a divorce and I was having a hard time with some school bullies about my weight. But I went through therapy and got my weight under control. Part of my therapy was to express all my feelings into songs. Music therapy is where I found my love of song writing. It was a good way to clear my head. I actually wrote my first single in therapy.
B: That's horrible! But I'm glad you're better now though! Not sure what the world would do without their favourite country artist! What happened with the school bullies?
Cassidy: Aww thank you! I couldn't do it without y'all though (hahaha), Yer! at school people used to say to me that I was fat and ugly and it used to get to me because I'm sensitive and hated it when people didn't like me. Plus I was never into the things that the 'popular's' were into. I liked country music and farming and horse riding plus I was an ugly kid.
B: You're not ugly! In fact most people would say you were stunning! I do believe you were voted 20th prettiest woman in America! were you not!
Cassidy: Yeah! Oh My Goodness! That's awesome! Just goes to show that school bullies don't know what they're saying!
Here is my magazine article;
We all know the being successful and famous has it's draw backs, It's might sound hypercritical but we all know the bad stories that journalists put in the news to stir up talk. I wondered how Cassidy copes with the stories. 'I try not to read them, I don't really go on the internet unless it's twitter! I used to get really self-conscious about all the bad stories. Especially if they're about my weight! I've always had a problem with my weight and it got to a point where I would read one bad story or see a awful picture and crash diet for days. Country princess Cassidy Jones had a weight problem! Although a weight problem is bad, Cassidy says the music is what saved her. She explains why 'It was a rough part of my life when my parents were going through a divorce and I was having a hard time with some school bullies about my weight. Not sure what the world would do without their favourite country artist! but secretly I know what you're Thinking! What happened with the school bullies? well luckily I already asked that. 'At school people used to say to me that I was fat and ugly and it used to get to me because I'm sensitive and hated it when people didn't like me. Here is my magazine article;
Cassidy Jones, one of the most talented, kindest girls I have ever had the pleasure of interviewing. In January, 2006 at the age of 16, the gorgeous Cassidy Jones released her Debut single 'Forever America'. Now here we are, 4 years later talking about her newest single 'Fallen fairytale'. Personally one of my favourite songs Cassidy has ever written, I came to asking her how she wrote it, in fact I asked her how she came to write most of her songs, ' I wrote it as a feel better song for a friend after she went through a rough break up when I was like 16. It was only suppose to be a fun joke type thing so I put it away in a drawer with a load of other songs I wrote when I was younger. So when I was clearing away my stuff so I could move house, I looked in the drawer and found it and it fit perfectly with my new album! It was all a complete coincidence (she laughs uncontrollably) I think people can relate to songs more if they're about real life.' I don't know if I'm the only one but I often find myself singing (or rather belting) it in the car every morning on the way to work, always puts me in a good mood. Anyway, Cassidy is undermining herself as we all know she's pure genius when it comes to song writing.
I asked her about the tour and whether or not she has had time to appreciate everything? She replied overwhelmingly excited with a huge smile on her face 'It's been crazy with the tour and the album. I guess I haven't really had time to think about it. Clearly enjoying the tour she goes on to say 'It's awesome though! I'm about half way done got ten more places yet to go. I've been to loads of places and now I'm going to Europe. It's crazy! I love meeting all my fans especially when I'm trying to speak a different language to them. It's amazing how inspiring they are.' Although denying her love of the fame and spotlight, Cassidy is clearly loving the opportunity to meet her fans and seeing other places. We all know the being successful and famous has it's draw backs, It's might sound hypercritical but we all know the bad stories that journalists put in the news to stir up talk. Photoshoot
Here is some of the unedited photos from my photo shoot (the best ones), They were taken in different locations with different outfits and props to depict a country feel but with out trying to be two stereotypical. My favourite is the one with the kitten but because it didn't link with the text, I decided not to use it because it would have been a bit random.
